Bio
Esogenesi was formed in January 2016 by vocalist and lyricist Jacopo Marinelli and guitarist Davide Roccato, formerly of the short-lived hardcore crust band Collasso Cronico. The project began as a funeral doom metal venture, but with the arrival of drummer Michele Adami the trio shifted toward a more death/doom oriented sound and, despite an incomplete line-up, recorded the demo material that would eventually be part of their debut.
In February 2017, bassist Carlo Campanelli joined the band and a few months later the quartet refined and re-recorded the songs for their album. Later that same year, Esogenesi signed with Transcending Obscurity Records, which released their self-titled debut on October 4th 2019 to positive feedback from the metal community. Evolving from the initial funeral doom concept, their sound was now developed into a more balanced hybrid of doom and death metal, echoing pioneers such as Anathema, Novembre and early Opeth.
In 2020, the pandemic and artistic differences led to a period of line-up instability that resulted in an almost completely renewed formation, featuring bassist David Segatore alongside founding members Jacopo and Davide.
In 2023, after the dissolution of that short-lived line-up, Jacopo, the sole remaining member, invited Michele and Carlo back to reform Esogenesi with a renewed focus and to work on the follow-up to their debut. To complete the line-up, the trio brought in David on rhythm guitars. The band’s sound has since been reinvigorated, embracing a more aggressive and expansive approach that blends their death/doom foundation with elements of stoner, drone, classical and jazz across more than 50 minutes of music.
On a parallel track, the band members have been involved in other projects: Jacopo also sings in the funeral doom project Eurynome and the melodic death act Abeyance, while Michele handles drums for the blackened death metal band Obsolete Theory.
